People with cancer have different amounts of a type of repetitive DNA — called Alu elements — than people without cancer. Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center are using machine learning to improve a blood test that detects cancer early — before people develop symptoms — by measuring these Alu elements.
