Managing Stress and Anxiety

Faculty photoManaging your anxiety and stress is important for the successful management of your overall health, especially during your cancer treatment. Neda Gould, Ph.D., is the associate director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Anxiety Disorders Clinic and runs its mindfulness meditation program. Mindfulness meditation is a form of present-moment awareness—just noticing what is happening inside our bodies and in the world around us as it is happening. The opposite of being mindful is being on “auto-pilot.” Many research studies have shown that mindfulness meditation can reduce stress as well as symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance and pain.

Please visit the Coping/Meditation & Stress Reduction section of the website to listen to one of Dr. Gould’s mindfulness meditation sessions, which includes both information about mindfulness and a guided mindfulness session.
